The 34th session of the World Heritage Committee meeting ended on 2 August 2010, after a week of deliberations over the latest nominations for World Heritage status. The Committee has announced the inscription of 21 new sites - 15 in the cultural category, 5 natural and 1 mixed property. Three states have particular cause for celebration. Kiribati, Marshall Islands and Tajikistan have had sites added for the first time.

New Natural and Cultural Sites

The new natural world heritage sites inscribed in 2010 are the Danxia Landform (Fujian, China). Pitons, Cirques and Remparts of Reunion Island (France), Phoenix Islands Protected Area (Kiribati), Putorana Plateau (Russian Federation) and the Central Highlands of Sri Lanka.

Cultural sites added to the World Heritage List include the historic monuments of Dengfeng home of kung fu, (China), the 17th century canals of Amsterdam (Netherlands), Bikini Atoll Nuclear Test Site (Marshall Islands), Episcopal City of Albi (France) and Jantar Mantar (India).
