Nashua is the second largest city in the State of New Hampshire, and on Saturday, April 24th, 2010, it will be celebrating Earth Day. Earth Day was created in 1970 in an effort to bring light to the environmental issues facing not only the United States of America, but the world itself. Over forty years the celebration of Earth Day has spread from the United States to the entire world, and Nashua is a fine example of some of the events which will be taking place worldwide to increase awareness regarding the dangers industrialization presents to the world’s ecosystem.
Earth Day in Nashua, New Hampshire
Nashua’s Department of Solid Waste will be hosting the event at the Four Hills Landfill & Recycling Center from 9 AM to 12 PM. The Department of Solid Waste collects trash, recycling, soft yard waste, and bulky items (such as couches, mattresses, and large metal items) from the curbside for nearly 100,000 residents. The Four Hills Landfill & Recycling Center actively encourages recycling programs outside of the City’s normal collection routes via recycling programs at schools, and through the reuse of materials gathered at the Solid Waste Department’s facilities.
